Oct. 1 was the Feast of St. Therese of Lisieux, the "Little Flower" and it was wonderful to get an "early start" to celebrate the Feast at St. Therese Parish in Succasunna. We also celebrated the 60th anniversary of the parish school.
Thanks and Congratulations to Fr. Rick Kilcomons, pastor, Mr. Tim Dunnigan, principal, and the whole parish and school community for a wonderful evening.
When a saint’s Feast Day falls on a Sunday, unless he or she is the parish patron, we don’t celebrate the Mass of the Saint and instead mark the “Sunday Mass” which was the 26th Sunday in Ordinary Time yesterday.
We can still remember the saints on their Feast Days and we should certainly do that on Oct. 1st, as we celebrated St. Therese!! Her, “little way” of encouraging us to do “little things with Great Love” is articulated so beautifully in her “Spiritual Autobiography” (her journal), known as the “Story of a Soul”.
For those who may not be familiar with St. Therese’s words and/or “little way”, the “Office of Readings of the Liturgy of the Hours, offers us a beautiful “excerpt” (see link below). If you don’t know her story, today would be a great day to start “getting to know her”. St’ Therese is also a wonderful example of where saints “come from” – so often, saints come from “families of faith”. St. Therese’s parents, Louis Martin and Marie Azélie Guerin were canonized on October 18, 2015. View the Diocesan post HERE for more photos!
